It’s that time of the year again when ‘bloated’ is not a very welcome feeling. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see their feet and not a dome of a tummy when they look down, especially when in their beach wear? While it is helpful to know what foods help reduce bloating, it is also just as important, maybe even more, to know which are the ones to avoid.

How do you take your coffee? I’m asking because if you prefer it with cream, it might be a good idea to ditch it before heading to the beach. Certain dairy products like coffee cream can bloat the stomach, especially to those who are lactose intolerant. Soy milk, which some people use to lighten their coffee, also tends to cause bloat in some.

Carbonated drinks are the major culprits when it comes to bloating. All those air bubbles form gas in your stomach making you look bloated. Some people actually replace their usual meal with diet sodas on beach days thinking that it would help them look lean. Actually, it just left them with a whole load of bloat. Have a light meal and drink lemon juice instead.

Salted snacks are also ones to watch out for. When you consume salt, your body needs water to dilute it and it reacts by holding on to the water in the tissues making you look puffy. Similarly when consuming sweet frozen foods, the body holds on to water to dilute the concentration of sugar in the body. No matter how tempting that flavoured ice-cream looks, gather your will together if you want to avoid your tummy looking like it’s been stung by a very determined bee!

So there you go… the foods you need to avoid to avoid bloat!
