About Prabhath Kalavidaru

Prabhat Kalavidaru is a theatre group based in Bangalore. It was started in the year 1930 and, since its inception, has staged many drama performances. It is particularly famous for its ballets of which its most popular is Cinderella, based on the English fairy tale, which has been staged over a thousand times by the troupe since 1977.

Prabhat Kalavidaru has produced about 20 ballets so far. A lot of experimentation is involved in enacting these dramas which include fusion of Western dance forms with Indian classical dance styles, and also using special lighting techniques to enhance the appeal of the drama. It also houses a recording studio where they compose songs and music for their plays. The troupe makes and prepares its own props and costumes as needed for their productions. As part of its operations, it also runs a dance school that specializes in Ballet and Bharatanatyam.
