The world and everything contained within it is but a slave to changing ideas, ideals, standards and trends. Given all this, it would come as little surprise to you, dear reader, that gyms and fitness centres, and therefore the designs of gyms and fitness arenas would be any different.

The gyms and fitness centres of today must therefore, change, adapt, and indeed adopt in order to fit in to the lifestyles, ideals, and the lives of fitness enthusiasts. An archaic or stagnant looking gym is something that can be shunned easily and successfully by clients, and therefore gym managers and owners must continually strive to be relevant and fit ‘in’ with the fitness crowd. To that end, we’ve carefully curated and compiled some trends and fashions to keep in mind as you go about designing or redesigning your gyms or fitness centres in the year 2018 (Part 1 of 2. Look out for Part 2 next week!). Here they are:

Functional fitness goes toe-to-toe with HIIT

Customers these days know just what they want, and while some of them were ever so keen on functional training and fitness, still others have caught the HIIT bug. While both training methods are indeed admirable, and warrant their place in the gym, as the gym owner, which do you provide for? Well, the short answer is neither! Instead, design your gym to actively service both HIIT and functional training, it’s indeed possible and probably necessary!

Get functional with the storage space

With gyms and fitness centres finally coming to grips with the huge and incessant demand for functional training, they do often forget, disappointingly so, to adapt their storage spaces for the tools and equipment of functional training. This is indeed a no-no, and leads to some untidy and unsightly fitness centres! Some gyms have therefore stolen a march on others by creating a customised storage space for functional training equipment, and you too could stay ahead of the curve by suitably changing the layout and design of your gym or training centre to make allowances for this.

Juice it up!

Keep it quiet, but adjoining juice bars that double up as lounges are another new and up and coming trend of the year we’re in! Besides, this sort of setup allows gym owners to create a brand around the products, juices and shakes they serve, and opportunities of this nature should never be tossed aside unwittingly. Allowing space in your new gym or creating space in your existing fitness centre for a ‘juice lounge’ will stand you in good stead. You can just picture it now, can’t you, customers milling about the lounge excitedly and seemingly endlessly, holding cups or bottles bearing your brand logo while they discuss the workout they’ve just had. Nothing quite like it, isn’t it? Nothing!

Trash the telly!

The television in the gym or fitness centre has no right to be there, or not any more at least. The telly acts as a distraction tool, while people go about their routines at the gym is definitely on the wane. We suggest that you inform clients of this, and while you’re at it, also tell them that getting rid of the TV will help them focus more intently on the reason they are there – to get fit and stay fit. What’s more, as the fitness centre owner, you could put the ‘telly funds’ to better use!

Should you need television in the gym or fitness centre?

  1. Interesting topic. I know for sure that in a stylish gym, the motivation for training increases. Even when a gym website is stylishly designed, it will definitely increase the likelihood that clients will come to your gym. I am currently designing a website for a new gym and this is not an easy task because many trendy ideas have been brought to life. As an inspiration I use masterbundles This is a real paradise for web designers, I hope it helps me to make cool web design.
